Eastwood and East Bairnsdale sewer works

East Gippsland Water

Work is due to get underway shortly on two significant engineering projects to boost sewerage services for customers in parts of Eastwood and East Bairnsdale.
Monday 30th May will see work commence on the installation of a new underground sewerage storage tank system within the reserve at the corner of Howitt Avenue and Lorimer Drive in Eastwood. This is necessary to increase the capacity of the local system, to cater for future population growth in the Eastwood area – helping to ensure that the efficiency and reliability of sewerage services are maintained well into the long term.
The $500,000 project will take approximately two months to complete and there will be no interruption to sewerage services.
Mid-June will mark the start of a three month, $1 million program of works to install 1.4km of new sewer main. The new section of sewer will run from the far eastern end of Flinns Road in Eastwood to just beyond Bairnsdale’s Howitt Park pavilion – via the Great Alpine Road, Alexander Parade and the Princes Highway.
Much of the work will be confined to the nature strip, with trenchless technology used along most of the route to install the new pipeline underground. This will minimise the extent of any excavation work and the level of disruption to householders, businesses and motorists in the area.
East Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Bruce Hammond said, “All customers in the immediate area of the Eastwood and East Bairnsdale initiatives have been contacted about the works, including the use of localised traffic and pedestrian management measures. Any disturbed land will be carefully reinstated after the works are completed.
“We would like to thank nearby residents and motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation.”
The projects are part of an $8 million program of investment in major capital projects that the corporation is committed to for the current financial year across East Gippsland’s towns.
