Water main upgrade for Calvert Street, Bairnsdale.

East Gippsland Water

Households along Bairnsdale’s Calvert Street, between the Princes Highway and Jennings Street, stand to benefit from a $650,000 project that will see 800 metres of ageing water main replaced.
This will boost water quality for local residents as well as the reliability and efficiency of the local water supply network well into the future.
Contractors operating on East Gippsland Water’s behalf, and managed by engineering consultants MWH, are due to start replacement work onsite on Monday 30 May, with the first section, between the Princes Highway and Victoria Street, due for completion by July. The final section towards Jennings Street is then expected to be undertaken from around July to September this year.
Excavation will be minimised where possible through the use of trenchless technology.
Residents in the immediate area are being contacted about the project. Traffic management measures will be put in place, with every effort made to minimise any inconvenience to nearby residents and motorists.
East Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Bruce Hammond said, “We would like to thank nearby residents and motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation during the period of the work. This is an eagerly awaited project that will bring long term
benefits for households along Calvert Street.”
The project is part of an $8 million program of investment in major capital projects that the corporation is committed to for the current financial year across East Gippsland’s towns.
