Sunlakes Water Storage (Lakes Entrance)

East Gippsland Water

In 2008 East Gippsland Water carried out an extensive $1.5 million upgrade to the Sunlakes water storage, which supplies drinking water to customers in Lakes Entrance and neighbouring Kalimna.

The storage is capable of holding 45 megalitres of water (roughly equal to 45 Olympic size swimming pools) and has been given a new lease of life to meet the requirements of a growing local population.

The basin floor and walls are lined with layers of rock, sand and polyethylene lining material to protect against leaks. In addition a plastic cover has been installed over the entire storage to combat evaporation.
