Reducing water restrictions for Mitchell River and Buchan customers

In light of recent rain events and milder temperatures, East Gippsland Water is reducing the level of water restrictions to Stage 1 for customers supplied from the Mitchell River and Buchan River, from 1.00am this Friday, 27 March.

Under Stage 1, customers will once again be able to water residential lawns, as well as garden areas, but with certain restrictions. Watering can be done on alternate days using a watering system, between 6am and 10am and 6pm and 10pm. A bucket, watering can or hand held-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle may be used at any time.

Communities supplied from the Mitchell River and subject to Stage 1 water restrictions include; the Bairnsdale area, Walpa, Lindenow South, Lindenow, Eagle Point, Newlands Arm, Paynesville, Raymond Island, Sarsfield, Bruthen, Nicholson, Johnsonville, Swan Reach, Metung, Kalimna, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Lake Tyers Beach and Nowa Nowa.

East Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Steve McKenzie, said, “We greatly appreciate customers’ efforts to save water over recent weeks, which has helped to conserve precious water supplies and enabled us to be in a position to lower restrictions now.

“We have had three dry years and the drought is not yet over, but we have adequate water in storage and the reduced customer demand means we are able to ease water restrictions. We will continue to review the weather situation over coming months, before making a decision on whether to reduce the level of restrictions further.”
