Cover letter
This letter is a way of introducing yourself to the selection panel and should include your full name, address, daytime telephone number and the title of the position you are applying for. It should also include why you are interested in the position and a summary of your skills and experience that meet the selection criteria.
Resume
An up to date resume needs to include the following:
- Personal Details: name, address, contact telephone numbers and email address (if you have one).
- Education: your university, school and/or any training or other licences and qualifications.
- Employment History: employer’s name, period of employment, position title and duties/responsibilities.
- References: a minimum of two recent work related references with daytime contact phone numbers.
- Additional Information: Should you wish to attach any supporting material such as certificates/licences, please do not send originals.
Selection criteria
Each advertised vacancy with East Gippsland Water will have a Position Description available. Within the Position Description is the Selection Criteria – this will be in the last section. Please address each of the specified criteria individually, with a brief paragraph and examples outlining your relevant experience, qualifications, skills, abilities and knowledge showing how you meet each criterion.

Development of the Position Description
This document outlines responsibilities, duties, skills and the selection criteria. The selection criteria consist of the qualifications, licences and relevant experience required, and the skills and knowledge considered necessary to undertake the duties effectively.
Advertising the job
East Gippsland Water’s positions are advertised in a range of media including local and regional newspapers, our website and specialist recruitment websites.
Shortlisting
All applicants will be advised by email that we have received their application. Short-listing involves assessing applications against the selection criteria outlined in the position description and selecting the most suitable applicants to interview.
Interviews
A panel of three East Gippsland Water personnel conducts the interview in a structured format with a series of questions relating to the selection criteria.
Pre-employment Checks
Reference checks are undertaken for the preferred candidates. Referees will only be contacted with your consent.
Letter of offer
Once a decision is made, the successful applicant will be offered the position verbally, supported by a written offer outlining employment details.
Unsuccessful applicants
All unsuccessful applicants will be notified once the selection process has been completed.
