Improvement works to two Primary Sedimentation Tanks at East Gippsland Water’s Lakes Entrance Water Recycling Plant have been completed ahead of schedule.
The $2.1 million project involved replacing aged and heavily corroded infrastructure to improve the reliability of waste water treatment services for customers and reduce emissions from the plant for the benefit of the environment.
Executive Manager Infrastructure & Sustainability, Neville Pearce, said: “This project was a great team effort between East Gippsland Water, the design and construct contractor Jaydo and GHD who provided supervision and technical support.
“The upgrades will result in better process efficiency, reduced maintenance and improved safety for plant personnel.
“The project has also contributed to a reduction in odorous gas emissions from the site through the installation of new odour covers that capture hydrogen sulphide gas. This is then processed in a nearby odour control facility.”
Sedimentation tanks are used in the wastewater recycling treatment process, where sewage is stored for a period of time to remove particles in the water that fall to the bottom of the tank due to gravity.
Through great teamwork the project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule.
